Eve Phillips, Chief Executive Officer

Eve is an experienced Silicon Valley product builder, entrepreneur and investor with expertise in assembling diverse teams to solve hard problems. Eve started her career as a product manager at Trilogy, an enterprise ecommerce software company, working on new ventures. From there, Eve held product, strategy and business development roles in software and internet businesses including Microsoft, Zazzle and eCert. Eve has also been a member of the investment teams at Amadeus Capital Partners, Vector Capital, and Greylock Partners. Prior to co-founding Empower, Eve was a Research Affiliate in the Synthetic Neurobiology Group at the MIT Media Lab. Eve holds an MBA from Stanford University and an SB and an M.Eng in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.


Jesse H. Wright, M.D., Ph.D., Clinical Advisory Board Head

Dr. Wright is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Louisville where he also serves as Vice Chairman for Academic Affairs and Director of the Depression Center. He is the principal author of eight books on cognitive-behavior therapy and the first multimedia computer program for treatment of depression. Dr. Wright’s research has been focused on developing and testing computer-assisted psychotherapy methods for improving the efficiency of treatment and enhancing the psychotherapeutic experience. He is currently serving as a Principal Investigator of an NIMH sponsored, multi-site study of computer-assisted CBT for depression.

Dr. Wright was the Founding President of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and the President of the Kentucky Psychiatric Association. He is a Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists. Dr. Wright has received the Distinguished Educator of the Year Award from the University of Louisville among other awards. He lectures widely on mood disorders, cognitive-behavior therapy, psychopharmacology, and computer-aided psychotherapy.


Kara ChanasykKara Chanasyk, Strategic Design Advisor

Kara Chanasyk is a seasoned user experience designer with ten years of experience in interactive media. She designs compelling user interaction for web and mobile platforms for a variety of industries. She has a passion for creating innovative solutions that promote healthy behavior change, with a focus on treating anxiety and depression. Kara’s work is a unique blend of creative design, project leadership and entrepreneurship. Kara is also a User Experience Design and Researcher for Stanford University’s Persuasive Technology Lab, where Kara designs novel, web and mobile based interventions for health behavior change. As the Founder of White Lotus Design, an interactive design studio, Kara led the vision and implementation of web and mobile solutions for clients such as Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Stanford University, Kaiser Permanente, American Heart Association, Institute for the Future, and other non-profits and businesses large and small. Kara holds a B.Sc. in Molecular/Cellular Biology from the University of Connecticut-Storrs.


Cyndi KlementCyndi Klement, Sales Director

Cyndi is a seasoned sales and business development professional with a strong background in healthcare systems sales to providers and payors for two decades. With a broad range of experience working with a variety of systems, she has developed a deep understanding of the unique and rapidly changing healthcare market and the special place held by behavioral health. Working with ACO’s, MBHO’s, EAP’s and Health Plans, Cyndi helps change the way individuals and clinicians engage with online services. She brings to Empower high energy and a strategy to bridge the gap between behavioral and medical health. She earned a B.S. degree in Finance, with minors in Economics and Computer Science from California State University, Chico.


James S. Rives, Chairman

Jim has been an operator and advisor to healthcare and technology businesses for several decades. Jim is currently the Senior Partner of Rives Development Associates (RDA), a management consulting and strategic advisory firm. His current focus is market strategies, management development and financial structuring for emerging health care companies. His client engagements have included advisory work with Humana’s healthcare information spin-out companies, Kindred Healthcare Hospital, Louisville Medical Center Development Corporation (LMCDC), and the Regional Ophthalmic Surgeons Network. Jim is also the Strategic Advisor to Louisville’s Healthcare Enterprises Network (HEN) and the Vice Chair of the University of Louisville Depression Center, a founding member of the National Network of Depression Centers (NNDC).
